Last Friday, July 10, the Summer Klaverjas Evening took place in our greenery-filled canteen. Brian’s idea to play a game of klaverjas sometime this summer led to this very successful evening.
By 8:00 p.m., the participants had arrived, but when we took roll call, we realized the 16th player was missing. Fortunately, after a 10-minute delay, the group was complete, and following Mick’s explanation, the mixed group could begin drawing game table chips. The ladies and gentlemen took their seats at the four game tables, and the klaverjas evening could begin.
Mick immediately got a ‘pit’ in the first game and the participants were right into it. With plenty of passion, banter, game tactics, and players who were always sportsmanlike, the atmosphere was great right from the start. Thanks to this friendly atmosphere, the bowls of sausage and cheese that never ran empty, and the peanuts that went well with the drinks, the evening flew by.
Just before noon, the three rounds were over, and Mick was able to skillfully determine the winners on his laptop.
However, according to an old tradition, the booby prize is awarded first, and this time the “lucky” recipient was the very sportsmanlike and enthusiastic Jayden, who was delighted to receive the “beautiful little red brick house.”

The big winner of this Summer Klaverjas evening was “Grandpa” Wim, and he was the first to raid the prize table. Gerard made it into the winners’ circle for the first time and finished a respectable second.
Sven, who’s always in the running, took a solid third place. And Paul, despite arriving late, managed to shake off the nerves and finished a respectable fourth.

Many hands made light work, and in no time at all, the canteen and kitchen were restored to pristine condition.
Everyone agreed that the evening was worth repeating.
