TTV Amstelveen Open 2024
Over the weekend 25/26 May, TTV Amstelveen’s open table tennis tournament was played in the Bankrashal.
This is an official NTTB tournament in which players from all over the country could participate.
There were therefore players from Friesland, Groningen and Brabant, for example.
On Saturday, 110 youth players competed, with no separate groups for boys and girls.
However, there were divisions based on the rating (strength) of the players so that novice players also had a chance of winning a prize.
First there were the singles pools of 6 players (so everyone could play a lot of games), after which the first two of the pool could continue in the tournament.
But before that happened, the doubles were played first: again, pools of 3 doubles with the numbers one going straight through to the semi-finals and (if they won) to the final.
After that the singles tournament continued with quarter and semi-finals and then eventually the final.
And on Sunday, it was the same for the 163 senior players: again, no separate groups for men and women.
The photo shows the TTVA participants who were awarded (second) prizes in the youth: Pengyu He and Roy Qiu in the singles and Pengxuan and Pengyu He in the doubles. Among the TTVA seniors, there were (second) prizes for Elias Negrin in the singles and Arkady Gerasenko/Guus Korper in the doubles.
The tournament management consisting of Joke Wijker and Brian van den Heuvel guaranteed the smooth running of the tournament on these two days. Around 50 clubs participated and a total of more than 800 matches were played throughout the weekend.
After the 75th anniversary, this was the second major table tennis tournament played in Amstelveen in recent years.
