After everyone enjoyed the demo of Jonah and Ivan Kahn, we could start the annual family tournament on Sunday afternoon, May 7. In this tournament 16 couples consisting of parents and child(ren) competed against each other for the title “family of the year”.
The preliminary rounds consisted of 4 teams which battled in this round to eventually play a final. The parents played against the parents, the children against the children and finally a double was played.
The games went pretty well according to schedule and the estimated results were also pretty accurate. The v.d. Heuvel team (Brian and Jeffrey) were obliged, because of their strength, to play with their left hand to give the other teams some chance. It was great to see how everyone went to extremes to achieve a first place in their group.
After the preliminary round, new groups were made of all numbers 1, all numbers 2, all numbers 3 and all numbers 4. In these groups, the pairs played only a doubles match consisting of only 1 game. In this “casino round” the final winner had to be determined.
Without disrespecting anyone, we only mention here the four couples who had to fight for the first four places and the final result of this group:
- number 4: the left-handed Brian and Jeffrey van den Heuvel
- number 3: the event combination Ioana Nicorescu and Dick Gödecke
- number 2: Atharv and father Tusar Rastogi
and ….. - number 1: Yu-Chen (Emma) Yu and father Ko-Chia Yu.
Finally, there was an encouragement prize for Sano Lee’s team for its dedication during the tournament.
