of past activities in which members of TTV Amstelveen participated,
all in chronological order.

Relocation to new new hall November 2024

On 27 October and 1 November 2024, a lot of work was done on the move to the hall in the new school.
With success because on 1 November we were already playing in the new hall and on 2 November we had our first matches there.
Here are some pictures of the work.

Last competition match Jaap Boerop

On 8 April 2024, Jaap Boerop played his last official league match for our club.
It was a festive and pleasant evening with nice opponents.
The stakes were low because they had already become champions earlier and Gerard even finished unbeaten!
And so there were flowers for the whole team.
But in particular Jaap was of course put in the limelight.
Besides the flowers, there was also a speech by the board (Brian)
and there was a reporter from the Amstelveens Nieuwsblad (article in Dutch).

Thanks Atie, Peter and Wanda for the pictures and videos.

And the correction a week later

And the media interest in Jaap went on and on.
On Friday 19 April, the 55+ group was visited by Noord Holland Nieuws for TV recordings.
Of course, Jaap and his mate Gerard spoke at length.
Another nice advertisement for our sport and our club.
For the time being, Jaap can be seen on Noord Holland Nieuws on TV (Ziggo channel 31) and on the internet (text and video):

Pleasant Christmas lunch for 55+ Group TTV Amstelveen

The 55+ group of Table Tennis Association Amstelveen enjoyed a festive Christmas lunch last week, organised by Atie.
With more than 20 people present at beautifully set tables, not only did they eat delicious food, but they also laughed and enjoyed each other’s company.

At the end of the lunch, Atie was put in the limelight for her dedication to the club and specifically to the 55+ group.
Her efforts were rewarded with applause and appreciation.
Table tennis club Amstelveen looks back on this successful Christmas celebration with great pleasure and looks forward to more joint events in the new year.

Closing autumn 2023 junior season

Table tennis club Amstelveen wraps up successful youth season

On the last training day before the winter holidays, Table Tennis Association Amstelveen experienced a vibrant end to the youth season. Over 30 youth members took part in an exciting tournament, followed by the honouring of the club’s three champion teams.

In the tournament, youth members were able to show their skills after a season of hard work. The matches were played sportily and amicably. The champion teams were then honoured with pride and joy: 3 of the 4 teams became champions.
Youth coordinator/trainer Guus Korper emphasised the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork, thanked parents and volunteers, and looked ahead to next season full of challenges and successes.

Festive conclusion of the 75th anniversary of TTV Amstelveen

On Saturday, November 23rd, TTV Amstelveen festively wrapped up its 75th anniversary.
The club’s board and some enthusiastic volunteers organized a special event to mark the end of this remarkable jubilee year.

The celebrations kicked off with an amazing table tennis extravaganza for the kids.
Over 35 children, accompanied by their parents, had a blast in the table tennis garden set up by MJ Table Tennis. The garden offered a variety of table tennis tables, including a round table, a table tennis robot, a ball floater, mini tables, a panther table, a golden table, a candy table, a target board, and much more.
After a short break, where the kids enjoyed unlimited free snacks, sweets, and drinks, the party continued in the table tennis garden. After more than 4 hours of sports and play, all participants, thanks to the efforts of MJ and the coaches, looked back on an unforgettable afternoon.

After the board and some volunteers transformed the canteen, the youth made way for the seniors and their guests.
Although not as many people signed up as expected, the evening turned out to be particularly cozy with the limited company, and those who were absent were wrong.
Upon entry, everyone received a flower garland around their neck, emphasizing the tropical atmosphere.
With the DJ’s music, who perfectly tailored his playlist to the audience, it became a particularly lively and sometimes exuberant evening.
The dance floor even became “overcrowded” at times.
The drinks flowed freely, and the wide selection of snacks completed the party. At midnight, we closed the evening and with it the jubilee year.
All visitors went home satisfied.

Pictures and videos by Ben, Brian, Guus and Han. Thanks!

Exchange with SQYping in France

Last Friday, 3 June, a delegation of 10 players from ATC Bloemenlust (Dirk, Johan, Bart, Danny) and TTV Amstelveen (Ladi, Sheila, Guus, Arjan, Brian and Jeffrey)
left by 3 cars for Villepreux (near Versailles) in France to play an exchange match against SQYping, Hervé Pantegnies’ club.
Hervé is Brian’s former teammate when he still played at ATC Bloemenlust.

A few years ago, there had been a few exchanges but because Hervé had been working in Argentina and because of COVID, it had not happened for a while.
But now it was going to happen again. At the end of the afternoon on Friday, everyone had arrived safely at the hotel (after the inevitable traffic jam),
after which we had a lovely dinner outside in the sun in a fine restaurant. After a short pétanque practice session, everyone went to bed reasonably early.

Saturday morning, after a good breakfast, Hervé picked us up for a pétanque match between ‘the Dutch’ and Hervé as an experienced player.
The court was great, even partially covered. It is also played all year round and in the annexed canteen one can have a pleasant drink and a game of cards afterwards.
That was great fun to do.

Then to the playing venue, a large sports complex with several halls where all kinds of sports were played.

A delicious lunch had been arranged by some of the ‘players’ wives’, which at times we did think they were trying to lull us to sleep with this.
There was everything, roast chicken, fish, some fried snacks, salads, cheese and of course, baguettes. Delicious. There we also already meet some of our opponents.

Then we changed clothes and played. The rest of the opponents trickled in.
There was 5-on-5 play with the best possible division by strength. It was about to start.
There was fun and sporty play, and as it was quite hot, there was also a lot of sweating.
We did however notice that the French were gaining a few more points each round, unfortunately……

If I remember correctly, at 19.00 hours the final score was 28-22 in French favour. But as Guus said: ‘We will get them at home’.

After rinsing off the sweat, we went to BBQ on the grounds of the adjacent archery range.
Of course, it was well organised and everyone enjoyed the chicken, sausages and other tasty snacks.
The beer and wines also tasted great. We only lost Guus and Ladi for a while due to some loading stress.

Hervé took the floor towards the end of the evening to thank everyone for a very nice day and to hand out some prizes.
Also for both Dutch clubs and Jeffrey even got a prize as the youngest participant.
Bart also thanked Hervé and his clubmates for the great reception, the fun matches and the excellent BBQ.
After the warm farewell and promise of a ‘rematch’ next year, everyone went back to their hotel or home, tired but satisfied.

On Sunday morning, the 3 Dutch cars all headed home again at their own pace. It was a super successful weekend and definitely worth repeating.
Thank you all! Greetings Brian

Reunion for former members Table Tennis Association Amstelveen

On 25 March, the moment was there:
The reunion of Table Tennis Association Amstelveen, formerly NMB/VDO,
as part of our 75th anniversary!
Over 75 (former) members had braved wind, rain and (sometimes) long traffic jams to attend this convivial event.
After a welcome drink, the reunion was formally opened by chairman Arjan Verburg.
Then, while enjoying free snacks and drinks, everyone could (re)meet old acquaintances to their heart’s content.
A number of tables were set up in the hall, allowing fans to test whether they still had the old ball touch. They were eagerly taken advantage of.
In the canteen, a table had been set up with old annual reports, club magazines, photos and other materials that our secretary had unearthed from the archives. This table was well-visited. After all, it is still nice to come across your name in a club magazine from 30 years ago or to see your younger self again in a photo from many years (and sometimes many kilos and hairs) ago.
The participants found the reunion very successful and afterwards expressed their appreciation for the organisers and volunteers who contributed to it.

New Year's tournament with drinks 2023

On 7 January 2023, we had a singles tournament for all our seniors followed by a New Year’s drink.
The turnout for the tournament was somewhat disappointing to Ladislav as tournament organiser, but still 16 members of all strengths were present.
The stronger members naturally had to give an advance to the weaker ones, but in most cases that was not enough to let the latter win:
winner was Ryan, followed by Alex, Brian and Ladislav.

The New Year drinks were (obviously?) better attended and your correspondent has heard that people enjoyed themselves and were enthusiastic about the snacks.

Family tournament 2022

On Sunday 12 June, 19 teams competed for the title of “family champion 2022”.
The teams were formed by parents and children from 1 family
where at least one of the two players had to be a member of TTV Amstelveen.
It is worth mentioning that there were teams from as many as eight different nationalities participating, which emphasises the cultural diversity of the club.

In the preliminaries 5 groups of doubles were played after which the results of the groups determined in which group the players were placed for the final rounds.
In this final round the players played as a team in a group of 4 teams.
In each match, first the parents played against each other,
then the children and each match ended with a doubles match.

In a breathtaking final, the originally Greek couple Aris and Elias Negrin played against the Kumar family team with American roots.
The decision in this match fell in the battle between Elias Negrin and Harish Kumar, which was surprisingly won by Elias.
After two more exciting matches, the final match was eventually won 2-1 by the Negrin family.

After 5 hours of hard work, enjoyment and a lot of table tennis fun, the prizes were handed out by organiser Guus Korper who, with the help of volunteers, trainers, parents and players, managed to make this tournament a great success.

Also see the pictures in Activities in the Past .

This article was also published (in Dutch) by the Amstelveens Nieuwsblad .

24 April 2022 - Starters tournament at DOV

Sunday 24 April twelve junior members and about the same number of parents and supervisors traveled to Heerhugowaard to watch the youngsters at the starter’s tournament organized by the local table tennis club DOV. Of course the trainers/coaches Guus Korper and Martin Amersfoort were there as well, to make sure things ran as smooth as possible.

At this tournament 39 players from the entire North Holland region battled for the prizes. Condition for participation was that the players had none or little competition experience.
The tournament started with 5 groups of 8 players of different levels. A lot of fun was the main objective, but most players energetically went for the full victory.
From the 5 groups of 8 players no less than 4 players (Yavuz, Taha, Arthur, and Pengyu) made it to the final round with 8 players, which would be played after a short break. The other TTV Amstelveen players also qualified for the various follow-up rounds.

In the final group, with the strongest players of the event, Yavuz proved too strong for the entire field. Yavuz became the champion of the day, closely followed by Pengyu and Taha, a great result. In the remaining groups,  where the level was quite high, Vrishti managed to take 1st place through strong and concentrated performance. Of course, the coaching of her father also contributed to her result.

After the prize-giving ceremony all players, parents and coaches travelled together back to Amstelveen and are all looking forward to the next tournament and the competition which will start again in September with new competition players.

27 March 2022 - Starters tournament at Victory '55

A delegation of eleven youth members of the Amstelveen table tennis club left for Volendam on Sunday 27 March,
led by coach Guus Korper, to take part in the ‘starter’s tournament’ of table tennis club Victory ’55 .

In this tournament youth players without, or with 1 year competition experience played their first matches with an audience.
After the placement round in which all players played at least five matches, groups were made based on strength.

In the first group, the group with the strongest players, TTV Amstelveen was represented with three (of the seven) players.
Aadit Akre won this group by winning all his matches.

In group 2 Ilia Borisochkin did the same and thus also won first place.

In group 4, 8-year-old Leon Ma won first place by playing with great technical skills and being watched by enthusiastic spectators.
Leon, who played his very first matches for TTV Amstelveen, is a real talent. If he keeps developing like this he might become the figurehead of the youth of TTV Amstelveen.

In group 5 Ekin Erayabakan surprisingly took first place by playing well and beating her strong opponent 14-12 in a thrilling final match.

And so we can mention more names because all participants showed themselves to be winners in a wonderfully organised tournament.
After a very fine day all players, coaches and proud parents returned to Amstelveen with a smile on their faces and are looking forward to the next tournament.

28 November 2021 - Opstap tournament HTC

Saturday 28th November TTV Amstelveen travelled to Hoofddorp with a 16 person youth delegation led by Guus Korper.
Here they participated in the annual “opstap tournament” which was organized by the local table tennis club HTC.
A total of 48 participants in different categories competed for the prizes.
After a long day of battling, toil and drudgery the youth of TTV Amstelveen won no less than 10 prizes.

It would be going too far to mention everyone’s name, but we would like to single out two names.
Joshua Salomon, who took the trouble to reschedule a party to be present,
took an incentive prize for his positive attitude and excellent behaviour.
Ilia Borisochkin managed to win all his matches in the first round by fantastic play
but ended up in a pool with very strong competition players
and was therefore unfortunately unable to win a prize which he deserved on the basis of his play.

The justifiably proud players, who almost all played their first serious tournament,
left the playing field with a feeling of satisfaction and a load of cups ……
On to the next season.

22 November 2021 - Exams for the white and green-yellow bat ribbons

On Monday 22 November 2021 the youth members from the beginners group had to do their first exams in the
TTV Amstelveen SUPERSTARS program.
This programme is aimed at teaching the youth good techniques in a playful manner from the very beginning.
Within the programme the youth has to pass exams for the, in order of difficulty,
white ribbon, green-yellow ribbon, yellow ribbon, red ribbon and blue ribbon.
Once they have passed the blue ribbon, they can in principle enter competition play at the lowest level.

Fourteen youth members and 5 trainers were ready for the exam.
The youth members all managed to get the planned white ribbon in the first instance
and since there was still time left, they also went straight on to the green-yellow ribbon .
Despite the fact that a number of youth members needed a little help with the theory questions, they all managed to pass with flying colours.

Congratulations and in the new year on to the yellow ribbon.
